Dillinger's car on display

A car owned by infamous bank robber John Dillinger is on display at the airport's Southwest terminal.

The 1933 Essex Terraplane will remain at BWI until early 2011 before returning to its permanent home, the National Museum of Crime & Punishment in the District.

Dillinger's criminal exploits captivated the country in the early years of the Great Depression. He bought the Essex in March 1934. Later that month, he and his girlfriend used it to escape a shootout with police. In April, Dillinger's brother crashed the car in a farm field.
